Square - Make 16 of each color: Ch 15 to measure approx 4 3/4".
Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch to end (14 sc), ch 1, turn.
Row 2 (right side): Working in back loops only, sc in each sc (1 ridge made), ch 1, turn.
Rows 3-14: Repeat row 2. Fasten off.
Finishing: Working from wrong side matching sts to rows (alternating as in photograph), sl st 16 squares tog for front and back. With C, from right side through double thicknesses, and matching squares, sc front and back tog on 3 sides, working 3 sc in corner. Insert pillow form, join 4th side. Sl st in each st around, fasten off. Make 4 tassels and add as shown.

MATERIALS:
Caron International Cozi: 3 skeins Sandstone (A), 2 skeins Toasted Almond (B), and 1 skein Charcoal (C) (or for variation with solid back, yarn requirements are: 2 skeins Sandstone (A), 1 skein Toasted Almond (B), and 3 skeins Charcoal (C)
Crochet hook, size K/10.5 (6.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Pillow form, 18 x 18"
PLEASE NOTE: Yarn usage may vary depending on your particular yarn techniques.

GAUGE:
In patt, 3 sc measure 2" across. To save time, take time to check gauge.
NOTE:
Each sc counts as one st.
STRIPE PATTERN: Stripe Pattern: 6 rows A, 3 rows B, 6 rows C, 3 rows B, 6 rows A.
PillowMotif (Make 8): With A, ch 26.
Foundation Row (RS): Sc into second ch from hook and into each ch across—25 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc into each sc across—25 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3-23: Cont in Stripe Patt, repeat last row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 24: As last row. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
With RS facing, refer to illustration, and sew motifs tog for each side of pillow.
With RS facing and using A, work one rnd of sc around all four sides to join, working 3 sc into each corner.
VARIATION:
For a pillow with a solid back, crochet 4 motifs only, and sew them tog as illustrated for the front. For the back: with C, ch 51.
Foundation Row (RS): Sc into second ch from hook and into each ch across—50 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc into each sc across—50 sts. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until piece measures approx 18 _" from beg. Fasten off.
FINISHING
With RS facing and using A, work one rnd of sc around all four sides to join, working 3 sc into each corner.
Care Instructions: Hand wash in cool water. Lay flat to dry.

Pattern: Commencing in centre with dark brown, work 4 ch. and join in ring.
1st Round: 8 DC into ring.

2nd Round: 2 DC into each of previous round (16 DC)

3rd Round:* 2 DC into 1st DC of previous round, 1 DC into next DC * repeat from * to * all round (24 DC)

4th Round: 1 DC into 2nd of previous round, * 2 DC into next, 1 DC into next * repeat from * to * missing the last DC (34 DC) Break off.

Join in light green and work 1 row in shell pattern as follows: * 1 DC into 1st DC (1 T., 2 LT, 1T.) all into next DC 1 D.C into next * repeat from * to * (11 shell patterns). Break off.

Join in dark brown at 1st T. in shell and proceed as follows: 1 DC into 1st T., * 9 ch., miss the LT, 1 DC into next T., 9 ch. 1 DC into 1st T. of next petal * repeat from * to * all round (22 loops)
Commence the vandykes, still using dark brown.
1st Round: 15 DC into each loop; working under the chain.

2nd and 3rd Rounds: * 1 DC into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th DC of previous round, 3 DC into 8th, 1 DC into each of following 6 DC miss 2 DC * repeat from * to * all round. Break off.

4th and 5th Rounds: Join in Beige. Work as 2nd round. Break off.

6th and 7th Rounds: Join in light green. Work as 2nd round. Break off.

8th and 9th Rounds: Join in dark green. Work as 2nd round. Break off.

10th and 11th Rounds: Join in coral red. Work as 2nd round. Break off.

Continue in this manner i.e. working rounds of each colour, and increasing at top and decreasing at lower edge of vandyke until 16 rounds are worked.

17th Round: *1 DC into each of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th DC of previous round, 5 DC into 8th, 1 DC into each of next 6 DC miss 2 DC * Repeat from * to * all round.

18th Round: DC into each of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th DC of previous round, 3 DC into 9th, 1 DC into each of next 7 DC miss 2 DC * Repeat from * to * all round.

From now on increase 2 stitches in every 7th round by working 5 D.C into top stitch (as in 17th round.).

In the following 6 rows return to 3 DC in tip stitch, and still omit 2 lower DC as previously. When work measures about 22 inches from points break off. Press lightly on wrong side. Prepare well filled cushion about 20 inches in diameter and catch cover on with vandykes extending.

Center pillow top over front of purchased pillow; pin in place. Sew to pillow.

Row 1: Ch 55, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. ( 54 sc ).

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 4: Working in back loops, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Front of Row 4 is right side of work.

Row 5: Ch 4, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st, ( ch 2, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st ) 16 times, ch 2, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. ( 18 ch sps ).

Row 6: ( Sl st, ch 3, 2 dc ) in first ch sp, 3 dc in each ch sp across, turn. ( ch 3 counts as first dc - 54 dc ).

Rows 7-31: Rep Rows 5 and 6 alt, ending with Row 5.

Row 32: Ch 1, 2 sc first ch sp, sc in next st, ( 2 sc in next ch 2 sp, sc in next st ) across, turn.

Row 33: Working this Row in front loops, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 34-35: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At the end of last Row, fasten off.

FIRST SIDE RUFFLES: Working in rem loops of Row 3, join with sc in first st, ( ch 4, sc in next st ) across. Fasten off.

SECOND RUFFLE: Working in rem loops of Row 33, work same as First Ruffle.

SECOND SIDE: Work same as First Side.

SECOND SIDE RUFFLES: Work same as First Side.

EDGING RUFFLE:

Rnd 1: To join, holding First and Second Side, wrong Sides tog., working through both thickness in rem loops on opposite side of starting ch, join with sc in first ch, sc in each ch across; working in ends of Rows, evenly space 49 sc across; working in sts of Row 35, sc in each st across; insert pillow form; working in ends of Rows, evenly space 49 sc across, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 4, ( sc in next st, ch 4 ) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Join with sc in first ch sp, ch 4, ( sc in next ch sp, ch 4 ) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 3.

ROSE: Make 3 of each colour.

Rnd 1: With D hook, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st in first sc. ( 6 sc ).

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 4, ( sc in next st, ch 4 ) around, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, ( sc, 4 dc, sc ) in each ch sp around. Join.

Rnd 4: Working behind petals, ch 1, sc around post of first sc on Rnd 2, ch 3, ( sc around post of next sc in Rnd 2, ch 3 ) around, join.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, ( sc, 6 tr, sc ) in each ch sp around. Join.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, working in sts of petals, sc in first st, ch 1, * ( sc in next st, ch 1 ) across petal, sl st in sp between petals *, rep from * around, join.

LEAF ( make 12 ): With 3 strands of South Maid held tog., using D hook, ch 7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch, fasten off. Glue two leaves to each rose as in photo.
